Positive Women in Travel 2020

On March 8 we are celebrating International Woman Day. We have nominated 12 amazing women who have inspired and motivated millions to be more mindful and conscious travelllers though their words, images and actions. Each one of them has contributed in their own way to making the planet a better place.

"Every trip I take manages to teach me a valuable lesson, and this quote perfectly describes what I learnt during my magical experience in Kenya... The rights of every living creature are as sacred as our own, and we each play a vital role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem... Living in harmony with wildlife is vital; not just for ourselves, but for the future of this planet too"

" I don't know where I would be today if I never picked up a camera. From a young age, I wanted to breathe in the whole world, through my nose and my eyes and my finger tips. I couldn't get enough of this incredible planet!"

« We are living in concrete jungles surrounded by tall buildings and have no exposure to real nature. We physically harm nature daily-through purchasing unsustainable foods, adding to deforestation and habitat destruction, supporting unethical companies and buying their products, wrong choices in travelling and living and much more. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Conservationists and environmentalists around the world are joining forces to save the world and species liker hinos from extinction."

"The worst day of my life, it’s a moment that forever changed who I am and the person I want to be. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my whales."

"But again, more often than not ‘sustainable tourism’ also has a very green & eco heavy angle. It’s true that the environment is a big part of sustainability, but it’s not the only thing to consider& be cause of this perception, I’ve tended to lean more towards words like ‘responsible’ or ‘ethical ’travel."

”I go to places where most tourists don’t”
“The mission has always been to show that we can travel widely when our hearts are open.  That there is kindness and beauty everywhere, often more of it in places we fear the most.”

"With a home nowhere, I belong everywhere. I believe in slow and sustainable travel, embracing local ways of life, spending time with indigenous communities, exploring places off the beaten path and minimizing my environmental impact." https://the-shooting-star.com

"On a beach walk the other evening I came across thousands of pieces of tiny plastics. It was such a reminder that the things we make often last forever even if I only use them briefly."

"Sometimes in the rush to “check off” destinations and get everywhere as fast as you can, you miss all the good stuff in between."

“But importantly, I also encourage you to not judge what other people are doing to look after our planet and if their individual contribution is enough or up to your own standards. The reality is it’s impossible to do everything responsibly and to do it right 100% of the time. This last year has been incredible in bringing more attention to reducing single use plastics and travelling responsibly- but at the same time I have noticed that it has brought more open criticism in social media if you talk about sustainability."
